Sand Storm (2008) - SOLD
This painting was ordered by one of my children. She and her fiance chose a photograph and I painted it for them. She now tells me that if one's eyes follow the wooden posts from left to right, back and forth, you see an optical illusion!
I do not remember much of my childhood on the farm. What I do have many "snippets" of, is drawing, painting, coloring, making cards etc. In high school, one of my subjects was art.
As newlyweds, my husband and I moved to Windsor, Ontario, Canada where I started oil painting classes at night. When we returned to South Africa 3 1/2 years later, I painted until our son was born. Having babies, raising them and 'experiencing life' put art on the 'back burner' for 34 years.
Those three babies, all grown up now, encouraged me to start painting again. For three years the paint and canvas they gave me, collected dust.
Retired, young in spirit and able-bodied, the paint got dusted and the brushes took to painting like ducks to water. One of the grownup babies, supplies me with canvasses and one has started this blog. I am so thankful for this gift.
